Delivery & Turnaround

How long will it take to receive my completed document?

The delivery time always depends on the type of service you require, the total word count of your document, and the availability of our editors. Short documents require little time to deliver and longer documents can take up to four weeks. Sometimes, we seek clarification from the author about something in the text that may not be clear, so the speed of your response is essential in order to deliver the document to you within your requested timeframe.

When you submit your document for a quote and you choose the service you require, we will assess the document thoroughly before giving you a realistic time frame and budget.

How will you return my edited document?

It’s simple. Once we have agreed a delivery date and you have placed your order, we will let you know by email once we have completed your document. You will find the completed document attached to your email.

How quickly can I receive the final proof?

As a guideline, short documents of 4,000 words or less can be turned around within 24 hours. We will always deliver your document within the timescales outlined in our proposal and in line with our terms and conditions. If your document is urgent, please mark “urgent” in your request for a quote and we will give you a realistic timeframe, depending on the final wordcount.

Can I receive the edited document in parts?

As a general rule, no. This is because there are numerous phases involved in the editing and proofreading process. For example, in order to carry out a consistency check, we need to review the entire document. Therefore, you risk receiving a lower quality document if we send it to you in parts. Once we are happy with the editing, we will send you the complete document so that you can approve the suggestions and provide us with any feedback.

My deadline has suddenly changed. Can you deliver my document any faster?

Yes, this is possible. We suggest that you break down the document into different sections, or even chapters if you have a book, and place more than one order. Depending on the document size, we will then assign the document to a number of different editors. This will allow us to complete your document faster.

Editing & Reviewing

How do you edit and improve my writing?

This depends on the service you order as well as the version of English. As standard, we will amend punctuation, spelling and grammatical errors. We’ll also carry out consistency checks on your document. We always use Microsoft Word’s “track changes” facility so that you can see our comments and suggestions for improvements. You can use this feedback to improve your writing skills.

Can you edit PDF files?

If you send us a PDF file, we can still edit your document. However, since we cannot make changes to the text in PDF, we will convert it to Word format and make all the edits there, using the "track changes" facility.

If you prefer us not to make edits in Word format, we can still use the PDF annotation tools, using both the comment bubbles and highlighter to make recommendations for you to make the changes yourself.

Otherwise, if you prefer us to make the changes, you can either send us the original word document, or we will convert the PDF for you.

How do I send my file?

Simply click on the Order button on the website. This will bring you to the main page that says “Get an Instant Quote”.

At the top of the form, click on “Select File” where it says, “Please upload your documents”. This will allow you to upload your file.

Or, you can click here, which will bring you directly to the order page.

How do I convert my web pages into a Word file?

When we edit or proofread your document, we will send you a Word document with the “track changes” facility switched on. This means that if you would like us to review your web pages, then you must first convert them to a word file.

But this is easy and this is how you do it:

  1. Open the web page that you wish to convert

  2. In your browser menu, click Save as

  3. Select the .htm or .html file format, and then save your document to your computer

  4. Open Word, then click File > Save as. In the dropdown menu for Save as type, select Word Document, and then save the document to your computer

  5. You have now saved your web page as a Word document (doc. or docx), which can now be edited. Once you’re ready to place an order or request a quote, simply upload your Word document to get started.

How can I calculate the word count of a document?

In Microsoft Word, click on the Word Count function in the Tools heading, or under the Review tab. Make sure you include all footnotes and references.

So that we can process your quote or order as quickly as possible, please ensure that your word count is accurate. Once we receive your document, we will double-check the word count and notify you if there is any potential discrepancy or if there is a section you do not wish to have included.

Shall I include footnotes in the Word count?

When you conduct a word count, footnotes are not automatically included. If you would like us to check for any errors in the footnotes, then please let us know in your instructions. We will then instruct our editors to include your footnotes.

What is the maximum file size I can upload?

For our proofreading and editing services, the maximum file size is 25 MB.
File sizes greater than this are considered unsafe by us and create problems when we forward the document to our editors.

We recommend you carry out the following steps to reduce the file size:

1. Compress your images

If your document contains images, Word has a facility for compressing images without any major loss of quality. Simply refer to the Microsoft Office for how to compress images.

2. Delete your images
If you have compressed your images and the file size is still too large, we recommend you delete all images in your Word document.

If you are not sure about how to carry out these steps, you can send us a PDF file. We will then convert the PDF file to word. Depending on the number of images in the document, we will either compress or delete them on our side.
